Finally, a vine that flowers in shade! Virginia Clematis is a robust, deciduous vine that patiently bides its time until late summer when it erupts in profusions of bright white flowers, giving the appearance that an unseasonal snow has blown through the garden. On female plants, these flowers give way to beautiful pinwheel-like seed heads that persist well into winter, adding whimsy to the winter garden. In late winter or early spring, prune all tendrils back to about 1' above the ground to control size and promote flowering. And lastly, don't forget to stop and enjoy the delightful fragrance when it blooms - you won't regret it!
The Virginia Clematis we are offering was seed grown from a local population from one of our beautiful preserves in Montgomery County, PA.
